How to Change your Life Right Now

Do you need to change your life?

Ever woken up and thought this just isn’t working for me?  Or maybe your life overall is good but there is something else you want to do or try.  Or maybe it’s just that something needs to change but you aren’t even sure what.

Sometimes you can find that while your life is good, it’s been a bit the same for a while so you feel the need to mix it up in some way.

Trying to work out what to change can be hard and there are so many articles on the interwebs that it can be confusing.  Here are a few things that worked for me, maybe some of the will work for you too.

Look at what makes you happy

Marth Beck says there are “animals tracks” through your life that you can look at to see what makes you happy.  These things pop up through the course of your life in various ways.  For example, if you love art you might find many instances in your life when art came up – you took a course, someone saw your work and complimented it or you just remember the feeling that producing art gave you.

In my own case,  I remembered when I was little lining up my teddies so I could play at being a teacher.  I’d had a desire to be a sign language teacher in my teens and I worked as an IT trainer for a few years.  Teaching and passing on knowledge has long been a thread in my life and has now led me to Blogging and online business.  I love to learn and I love to pass on that information so it’s been a good fit for me and brought more joy into my life particularly through some of the people I’ve met along the way.

Implement Small Changes

You can change your life without completely reinventing it.  It does not have to involve selling everything you own and moving to the beach.  That would be nice I’m sure and for some people that would be a fulfiling life.   For most of us, that drastic a change is not needed to make life happy – though if being near the water brings you joy, go for it,

Small changes can have a big impact.  Things like setting a regular bedtime and sticking to it, drinking more water, taking some time to read every day, taking a few minutes to connect with your spouse each day.  These are just examples but can have a big impact on your life.  More energy, sheer enjoyment, a more loving relationship.  Things that can make your everyday life much happier.

The truth is changing your life does not have to involve big changes.

Are there things that you can do that will make your life happier?  What do you enjoy that you’ve been putting off or not making time to do?  For me,  I wanted a life of adventure and travel but I also really enjoy staying home.  So I changed my definition.  I want a life of adventure and travel both real and imagined.  That translates into not only making real plans for actual travel but making the time to read more and have adventures of the mind.

What small changes will enhance your life?

Start Living it Now

If you are waiting for someday or for the circumstances to be right, you’ll be waiting forever.  Really.  Trust me, I know.  I put off travel until the “right time”.  I put off taking leave until the “right time.”  I spent a lot of my time waiting for things to be “right.”  Guess what?  They never are.

You have to do it anyway.  Book the trip.  Waiting for the right travel partner?  Find a tour group but book a single room if you don’t want to share with a stranger.  Make your own circumstances.  Book your leave to suit you not the company you work for.  Take the class.  Looking at all those pictures of clear blue water and white sand?  Start saving and make a real plan so you can go and sit on that beach in person.

  • Such wise words. I always tend to wait for the perfect time and like you said there is no perfect time. Do it now!

    • Yes I was always someone who waited as well. It really doesn’t work out at all.

  • I love this! I started asking myself the question, “what makes you happy?” About 5 years ago and it literally changed my life!! Scary as heck but I do not regret a single day! I now work from home, enjoy the days with my baby boy, and life is just good!!

Right now, what keeps me happy is writing, doing daily devotionals , and I try to bake at least once a month.
